These Kaluts, which were once formed due to water erosion and wind, are now about 145 km long and 70 km wide, and have been stretched from north to south, occupying an area equivalent to 11,000 square kilometers of the Lut plain. The Shahdad desert of Kerman, along with the beautiful images that it displays, has another interesting feature, and that is that it has the highest temperature in the whole world. Shahdad desert is a part of Lut plain, which is named as the hottest spot on earth in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and this has made this region famous all over the world. In fact, desert research by Professor Parviz Kordvani about the Shahdad region has made it the hottest spot on earth.
